February 4, 2012 - It's finished - well for now anyway!

Viola finished!  Last Sunday I finished up painting the last two walls and the room looks wonderful.  I absolutely Love It!  My hubby is also very happy with the way it turned out.  He even told me he was amazed that I got it finished so quickly.  He had doubts that I would even get started on it for months and that I had bought all the paint and furniture and would never finish it.  Boy and I thought he knew me better than that.... Doubting Thomas!

Anyway, today I put the two bookcases and the cubbies that I bought together without his help I might add, although he was ready to help out if I need him.  Then I tackled the desk and it was a breeze.

I absolutely Love the way it has turned out!
Obviously I still have lots of ideas and things I want to do on the organizing level.  But at least I now have a place to work and spread out.  My husband called it a Woman Cave!
He makes fun but I think he is really thrilled that I found something to keep me busy.

So next on the agenda is to get the Hoosier cabinet refinished so I can put it in this corner.
I also want to do some looking for some unique looking frames for the pictures that I have on top of the bookcases.  May look at the antique mall for some unusual ones.

Yes I also need a chair for my desk and to move my printer down as well.  But for now it is finished and I am so happy, did I say that already?  I don't know if the TV will stay in the back corner but for now it's good enough.

January 28, 2012

Today was a very productive day on the Craft Room project.  I started at 10am and taped off all of the woodwork in the basement, didn't take me as long as I thought it would finished up in a little over an hour.  Ready to paint!  I picked two colors and neither are any that I posted last week.  All the walls will be painted Breezeway and two accent walls will be painted  Cobblestone.  Basically a blue and a tan.  Yes blue of course, it's just my color.

These last two pictures will be painted Cobblestone.  Surprisingly it did not take me as long to paint most of the walls today as I thought it would.  After taking a lunch break I got started again about 12:30 and finished up at 5.  It's amazing how much different the room looks now even Kim was happy with the color.

Tomorrow I will tackle the remaining two walls and the hard part is done.  My table was delivered today and I'm so excited to get it down in the basement tomorrow afternoon, I may even have time to get my desk and bookcases I bought last weekend put together.

The next big project will be finding someone local to refinish the Hoosier cabinet that was my Great Grandmothers.  It has been sitting down in the basement collecting junk for 18 years and I knew someday I would find something wonderful to do with it.
It's not in terrible shape and at one point Kim actually started working on the top and doors and all the old paint has been removed from them.  But it needs a new bottom inside the lower half, probably new hinges and definitely new knobs.  I still have the flour bin that goes in the top cabinet.  This cabinet holds so many memories, I can picture Grandma pulling the shelf out and flouring it down to make pie crusts or biscuits, etc.  And I think she would be very happy that it will be put to good use again after all the years of sitting in the basement.  Now to find someone reputable to do the work.

I can't believe this whole idea is actually coming to life and I can't wait get busy working on crafts and such when it's all done.

Well that's it for today which was very productive!

The Beginning - Idea! wouldn't it be wonderful to have my own space to work on crafts, pictures, learn how to scrapbook or whatever it is I feel like doing?  Thus begins my journey to create that space.  I wanted to create this blog to calendar my process and reflect back on the thoughts I have while working through the whole idea.  I hope you enjoy reading this blog and will provide input, ideas, etc. as I go along.

This is what the area I am going to use looks like now:

First task paint.  I'm thinking something bright and cheery and coordinates better with the blue carpeting.

Here are some of the color swatches I've picked so far, not sure if any of these will be the one but I need to figure it out quickly since I plan on beginning to paint next weekend.
Probably a trip back to Lowe's to look at more colors because none of these are really thrilling me right now.   I'm trying not to go blue since just about every room in our house is blue.  However, it does happen to be my favorite color and looks terrific with the white woodwork.  So it's going to be tough not to pick something blue but I am fighting the urge....  Stay tuned.
